Dear Mr Sargent,

On 15 September 1998 you made a complaint to the European Ombudsman against the European Commission.

In your complaint you alleged that the European Commission, despite repeated requests over a long perid of time, has failed to provide you with information about your social security at the Joint Research Centre.

The examination of your complaint is under way and I shall let you know its preliminary outcome as soon as possible.

In accordance with Articles 2.2 and 3.1 of the Statute of the European Ombudsman, I have informed the President of the European Commission of your complaint and asked him to submit an opinion on it by 31 December 1998.
